"Indian" value

The recent incident of the missing Malaysian jet over the South China Sea has come as a shock to nations in the region. Though it is a shocking incident, it is heart-warming to see the many nations coming together to help and locate the plane or it's crash site and most importantly, it's passengers (or their remains).

It's no surprise Chinese are taking a major part in this search mission as majority of the passengers are Chinese nationals. Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore have participated intensely in this effort to search and locate the plane and its passengers; this involvement is in-spite of the fact that none of these nationalities were on-board this ill-fated Plane. Vietnam has shown utmost commitment by dispatching a total of eight ships, seven aircraft (expected to send more) and by setting up command posts in the region to support the mission in-spite of lack of resources and lack lustre & unsophisticated equipment. America, Australia & Indonesia are also very involved in the mission.

It comes as a real shock to note that India having one of the biggest navy in the region has not been a part of the mission in spite of five Indians being on the plane. This fact should take an even greater highlight considering the recent accidents in the navy, corruption scandals and increased expenditure in the Indian defence. This would have been a fantastic opportunity to put to some use the equipment in this global mission and in showing commitment to it's own citizens. Does an Indian life have no value in the eyes of the Indian Government? We, Indians seek this answer from time and again.
