There has been unrest after the recent attacks over Indians in Australia in India. Have the Victorian Police done what's necessary, or just issuing an advice to look poor be sufficient, Be it racist, be it opportunistic, these attacks have driven the Indian media completely nuts.. There's at least one incident every day followed by discussions with experts, statistics and more blah blah blah...
Times of India, reports a 46% drop in Indian students' applications to Australia and BBC predicts a fall in the number of Indian students studying in Australia by about 20% in 2010. Interestingly, Reuters India, reports that Australia would dump 20,000 low-skilled migrant applications to accommodate the growing Chinese resource demand of skilled workers.
However its changed the mindset of Indians travelling to Australia for jobs or for studies, I bet it must have reduced the number of Indian tourists visiting Oz land for sure too..
This news comes at a crucial time, just when there is a sudden shift in the Indian mindset.. The keyword here really is the "Growing Chinese Resource" I am sure there must be a huge growth in the number of applications the Chinese are making to universities and for jobs in Australia and not just for mining jobs or LNG projects!
Do these attacks have more insidious reasons than just being opportunistic or racial in nature??
